She shared her bucket list with me on our first date. Thirty-five items with varying degrees of beauty and possibility. She’s a lover, a dreamer with the heart of a realist. She tends to others, before caring for herself.
There are a few that I want to help her attain. Such as falling in love, a kiss in the rain, her father & brother walking her down the aisle to give her away, teach her to wear her heart on her sleeve, and a few others.
She is poetry to me. The rhythm or her rhymes beat in time with my heart. Every stanza is a completion to the perfect sentence: A life sentence of love. And as i sit here thinking about our future together - because there is a future, i find myself writing my own bucket list:
[ ] Tell her I love her every morning
[ ] Make her breakfast in bed every Sunday
[ ] Draw her silly pictures when ever there’s scrap paper handy
[ ] Hold her hand in public
[ ] Hold her hand in private
[ ] Hold her hand under the table at dinner with family or friends
[ ] Celebrate her birthday for a week
[ ] Celebrate her everyday
[ ] Write her a poem a day for the rest of our time on earth
[ ] Be a father to her children
[ ] Be her rock
[ ] Be her foundation
[ ] Leave love letters on the bathroom mirror
[ ] Make love every night, even after fights
[ ] Tell her I love her every night
The list might not have fancy trips to Vegas, lottery tickets or celebrity names attached to it, but that’s okay. Love isn’t suppose to be fancy, it’s supposed to be real. And this is real. The only thing that matters is her smile, that’s the reason for this bucket list. Every time she smiles, another line of beautiful verse is shot out into the universe.
Oh, and love. Twenty-three. Cross Twenty-three off your list.
